It is always a good idea to file a float plan when leaving the marina by water. One can be filed with the marina office, or with a trusted family member or friend.
A float plan will detail your vessel, crew, safety equipment on board, and your itinerary. The person with whom your plan is filed will use this information to contact proper authorities and the information on your plan will be useful should a genuine concern for your well being arise.
